Went to my favorite health food store for the $2.98 Lunch Special (see image #97 ). 15 days before Christmas and they are a long way from home. But where is home?
After an absence from doing photography on a regular basis I decided to do a-picture-a-day-for-a-year project. As a direction I am attempting to use modern images where possible to relate times in my photographic past. As I am no longer a spring chicken, I can get philosophical some times. As a Christian I often see God possibly using me and my photography to send short messages. I hope you enjoy these images as much as I have enjoyed making them around Monroe, NC. TheElmo

154: Happy Thanksgiving
A cold dreary morning and not expecting much photographically. Went to store for a sausage bisket and just down the street from the house was my Thanksgiving image.
Happy Thanksgiving to ALL.
Happy Thanksgiving to ALL.

116: Happy Days are Here Again
It was well after dark and no image for the day. I headed downtown turned onto Main street and STOP (Slide Tires On Pavement). This is what I saw.
There sat a Model A in the driveway of a home (funeral home actually, but close enough for reference). It reminded me of times long ago when a friend of mine had a Model A and we had stopped to drop off one of our dates. Talk about flash backs. The lighting was perfect as the car is in a darkest area (where would park when you brought a date home?) and the porch lights were always too bright for that parting embrace. The setting was perfect, think about where you would park to avoid parental or sibling eyes peaking out of windows? Oh what happy memories.
As a side note when I made this image I was standing beside the lamp post in image 60, where I referenced the Old Lamplighter. My town is a photographers dream, now if I could only meet the task.

90: Street Photography ++ Self Portrait
What a difference a day makes. Yesterday was a bad day photographically, including a visit by the local police, again. But Today, WOW. I headed over to a small community for their annual fall festival to shoot some “street”; Lots of folks and lots of harsh mid day lighting. In 4 hours I made nearly 200 captures, about half of them the lighting was too harsh. Out of the remaining images about 25 were not all that bad. And I got 5 or 6 that are really good, at least for this old man. In short I felt sort of like this:
OK, OK my “friends” are saying “Wrong end of the horse,” but that is not the self portrait. Here is the self portrait and it should prove to all my friends that I am not a horse’s pa-toot.
So there y'all, have a nice day.
THE Elmo

Note to Froggy: It is a large, bright orange, squarish, irregularly shaped object in the upper left not a small, round, bright orange object in the lower right. This makes for a much better composition plus it has a spectacularly fabulous point of interest in the lower left sweet spot.

82: Street Photography -- Men's Toys
This was car show night downtown tonight. Street Photography time, "Documenting the Human Condition." It seems to me all men seem to have some type of "toy" that causes us to turn our backs on the important things of life.

54: Street Photography -- Days of Old
It is not often the streets of this little town are occupied by multiple people, but this evening was one of those days. Once each month the Downtown Business Association sponsors a Cruse-In. The streets come alive with antique cars and people. The trouble was every time I started to take a picture, seems someone was in the way. And you would have thought there was a photographers convention going on. I am not talking about people with cameras, but people with cameras on tripods. I got a few decent images and then it happened! I got visions of the past. I wonder if it has to do with cars of that era (my dating era)?
This lady and gentleman walked up to this car. He opened the passengers side door and she got in. As he was walking around the car she slid over to the middle of the front seat. He got in and she snuggled up close and off they went crisin' into the sunset.

Once upon a time there was a tavern
Where we used to raise a glass or two
Remember how we laughed away the hours
And think of all the great things we would DO
Those were the days, my friend
Where we used to raise a glass or two
Remember how we laughed away the hours
And think of all the great things we would DO
Those were the days, my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
Those were the days
Oh, yes, those were the days
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
Those were the days
Oh, yes, those were the days
