308: What Happened to Thanksgiving

I am putting forth some effort to resurrect my blog.  So today I visualized 3 possible images and wouldn't you know it.  There was no way to make them work.  So after dark I headed to Downtown Monroe, where there are always good windows to shoot.  Not tonight!!!  It is not even Thanksgiving yet and all I saw was Christmas decorations  @#$#@%(&.  Call me old fashion, backwards, primitive, what ever; but Christmas season DOES NOT start until the day AFTER Thanksgiving.

It took a while but I finally found one window pane not out of season.  And this area made me think of my granddaughter Joy Anna who got married recently and the theme for her wedding was a "BOOT and SCOOT".  Well you can never say us TEXICIANS are opinionated or stick strictly to traditions..

224: The Subversive Diaries ---- The Osama-Ben-Elmo Story

Depot at Night

If you are wondering about the title of this post, It refers to the dark history of the pursuit of this image. The story starts back in 2007 when I first tried this shot. It was a dismal failure. In 2008 I gave it another try, this time it was better. It biggest failure, that time, was the roof was totally black and I felt it needed some texture. The only way to get texture was to shoot it during full moon.

Several weeks later I was downtown and heard a train coming. I thought it might be neat to have a train going by. I sat everything up and started doing some exposure experiments. What I did not know is someone must have mistaken the tripod for a rifle and called 911 and reported a sniper on the bridge. To make a long story short a few minutes later I suddenly found myself surrounded by the entire local Special Response Unit; Snipers and all, not to mentioned blocking off all traffic within several blocks.

After that several of my "Friends" started calling me Osama-Ben-Elmo.

I decided tonight was a time to try it again as it continues the story line in progress. I did notify the police first and thing went without incident.

And now you know the rest of the story

168: THE House at Christmas

Well I did it for Fall, I did it for Halloween. Here it is for Christmas. Sorry no Nativity Scene.

149: A different view

When you have a distinctive landmark it is hard to find a different view. Well I went for my walk a little late today and by the time I finished the sun had set so I thought another day without anything. As I have said over and over suddenly, there was the shot. Seems like when I am patient my needs get met. Not just photographically but in ever need in my life, God provides.

Build It and They Will Come

Awfully late in the tear for local baseball, but the lights were on.

116: Happy Days are Here Again

It was well after dark and no image for the day. I headed downtown turned onto Main street and STOP (Slide Tires On Pavement). This is what I saw.

The Date

There sat a Model A in the driveway of a home (funeral home actually, but close enough for reference). It reminded me of times long ago when a friend of mine had a Model A and we had stopped to drop off one of our dates. Talk about flash backs. The lighting was perfect as the car is in a darkest area (where would park when you brought a date home?) and the porch lights were always too bright for that parting embrace. The setting was perfect, think about where you would park to avoid parental or sibling eyes peaking out of windows? Oh what happy memories.

As a side note when I made this image I was standing beside the lamp post in image 60, where I referenced the Old Lamplighter. My town is a photographers dream, now if I could only meet the task.

79: The Street at Night -- Doors

Today was sort of a down day for me and I had a difficult time getting out on my photo search. But the warmth of this church house door made me feel much better.

76B: The Street at Night -- The Third Night

They say the third time is the charm, may be so. At least in this case it fits. For those of you who do not know, I do not do "set up" shots (only one so far in this series and this is not it). Last evening I saw the image I posted earlier but made another capture that I failed to review.

Calvary In Junk Shop Window

Here was Calvary on Saturday night in Waxhaw. The three crosses: the large white one for Jesus, A small white cross for the convict who repented, The small dark cross for the one who did not repent, All against the dark sky (reflection in the window).

Some times the truth is right before our eyes and we fail to see it.

75: The Street at Night -- The Next Night

The Receptionist Desk as Seen from the Street

Two night in a row and no police. But, tonight the intoxicated ones were very curious. But it is Friday night and this is right next to a bar were they can bring out their drinks while they catch a breath of "Fresh Air".

It came time to make my post and no image for the day. I went out for one last try and there it was. Patience, Patience.

60: After Dark -- The Light

Last evening while shooting the statue I noticed the lamppost and the style made me think of the old song -- The Old Lamplighter:

You'd hear the patter of his feet
As he came toddling down the street
His smile would cheer a lonely heart you see
If there were sweethearts in the park
He'd pass a lamp and leave it dark
Remembering the days that used to be
For he recalled when things were new
He loved someone who loved him too
Who walks with him alone in memories

But today as I thought about taking this image, I suddenly realized the real meaning was not secular, but represented to me the light of the world.
